No, not the kind that hovers over the San Fernando Valley… I’m referring to metropolitan Decay’s $19 shimmery masterpiece of golden khaki bronze, the 24/7 water resistant liquid eyeliner in Smog.

“Gosh, we used it with everything!” we’ll say. “We didn’t even touch black liners there for a while.”

It looked so great with summer time golds, khakis, bronzes as well as browns. even corals, purples as well as teals.

“Dang,” we’ll say, “that was one versatile liquid liner…”

You’ll roll your eyes as I retell the story (FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME) of exactly how I was using water resistant Smog along my lash lines when I bumped into Ryan Gosling that time in Hawaii.

It was early in the morning just after dawn, barely any individual else in the water, as well as I was sitting back on my surfboard waiting on the next wave. I love the new neutral Dolce & Gabbana Smoky Smooth Eye Colour Quad ($59) like…like Mariah loves wind machines. like Iron man loves tinkering. like Portlandia loves bird motifs (“Put a bird on it!”). like Ben Affleck loves beards. like drag queens love contouring…

For me, good neutral quads are like tropical vacations. They just make everything better.

When I’m stumped for what to wear with crazy colors like that hot pink glitter over there (ooh!) or that matte red blush over there (ah!), I’ll go with one, two — or when I’m feeling more adventurous — three or four neutrals on my eyes.

Но…

…not all neutral quads get it right.

Sometimes, there are problems with the powders, and the shadows end up on my cheeks. other times, they’re way too pigmented, or not pigmented enough, or they pull a David Copperfield and disappear right before my eyes, or they’re just annoyingly chalky.

But the matte black, pearly neutral gold, shimmery chocolate brown and shimmery golden beige in Dolce & Gabbana’s Smoky Quad do WERK!

These bunny soft textures would probably impress Peter Cottontail, and all of the easy-to-blend colors contain just the right amount of pigment, making them ideal for a wide range of eye looks from demure and dainty to smokey and sassy.

And because the shadows last as long as they do — all day long for me with barely any creasing or fading — you don’t have to carry the quad around with you while you go about your day plotting cosmetics conquests and beauty world domination.

The quad does cost a few tacos… about 50 of them at Taco Bell prices, plus tax (it’s $59), but Dolce & Gabbana knows a thing or two about pigment, texture and wear time when it comes to their high-end eye quads. Smoky isn’t all that flashy, but its shades should look great with just about everything (picture: a pair of black Manolo patent-leather pumps).

I could happily wear it a dozen days in a row.

My intro theme song changes fairly often, but it’s been the chorus of this song by imagine Dragons for quite some time…

Super quick pics and swatches here. I had to jam through these and only had 10 minutes to jot down some thoughts before heading out to meet my family for my mom’s bday celebration, so if this seems kind of rushed…it was!

So, what is The Showstopper?

Well, I’m delighted you asked! It’s Marc’s six-piece limited edition holiday set — $135 (listed as a $216 value) — and it comes with makeup for eyes and lips, a makeup bag, a mirror and a tiny bee-sized bottle of Marc’s Honey perfume.

The lipgloss: I like. It’s my favorite thing in the set. It has a medium-weight, non-drying formula — slightly sticky, but still comfortable — and it’s neither scented nor flavored. 

Color-wise, it reminds me of MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass (here’s my review from way back in 2010), and it’s sheerer than it looks in this swatch. As far as wear time, we’re talkin’ 3-4 hours.

Now, the liquid liner gave me some trouble. I like the color — it’s a true black without any blue undertones — and shine, but I find the felt idea pen tough to control (the edges of my lines are jagged).

The mascara holds its own with good length, separation and color (also true black); curl hold isn’t bad at all, and I don’t see any clumps, flaking or smudging. I think the sweet spot’s around one or two coats. any a lot more than that, and my lashes start sticking together.

Lastly, the eyeshadows, and the first word that pertains to mind is “SHINE!” just like that, in all caps.

I like ’em. Today I patted them on with a flat eyeshadow brush, but I wasn’t too crazy about the shadows when I buffed them out or applied them with a fluffy brush. With a fluffy (brush, haha!), I thought they were hard to blend and buff out, and I did observe some fallout.

This set used to be available on the Sephora website, but wouldn’t ya know it? I’m not seeing it there now. You might want to check in stores if you’re interested. I did spot it online at a shop called CosPro on amazon.com, but I’ve never purchased anything from them before. Amazon has a pretty good return policy, but I don’t know specifically about this store (like the universe, it’s a mystery…).

Поверьте мне – меньше, если речь идет о этой соблазнике. Для этих фото я применил полный слой (довольно!), Но в течение 10 минут было горячий беспорядок! who is Tabs the Cat? Около шести лет назад я подружился с бездомным, блокирующим половым укусом табби с плохой случай червей. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was much more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model).

This was a pretty easy week for Tabs, all things considered. No redeye flights or company hotels. In fact, Tabs didn’t travel at all. He stayed here in Novato the entire week.

He did have a slew of modeling jobs, though, but everything was shot in studio with a green screen.

It’s pretty fantastic what they can do nowadays…

You might be interested in one of his gigs — the one for MAC. It was really interesting. A crew showed up at the front door the other morning with a portable photography backdrop and one of those fancy metal suitcases. They open the case, and what’s inside? how about a $250,000 diamond necklace from Tiffany!?

The necklace was a loaner specifically for the shoot. The crew set up the backdrop in the dining room while a MAC makeup artist did Tabs’ makeup. then they brought in this substantial prop of a huge MAC 217 brush, stood it up next to Tabs in front of the backdrop, and the photographer got the shot.

Amazing, right?

And here’s the final result…
